Our Lesson Horses

Alf

Alf is our newest and cutest pony! Only 4 years old and 12.1 hands high, he is a favorite for new young riders and Freddy's very best friend! He likes taking naps in the sunshine, eating peppermints and learning new things.

Charissa

Charissa is a very sweet and loveable purebred Arabian pony. She was born in Florida, where she learned to pull a carriage. She then moved to Massachusetts and spent much of her youth as a pet on a farm in Hamilton.

Charissa taught the three Teich sisters to ride and was a favorite at the Jericho Forest Pony Club. She has many blue ribbons from horse shows and Beginner Novice eventing. She also volunteered in a handicapped student riding program for a year.

Now back with her family at Orchard Hill, Charissa loves carrots and trail rides!

Derby

Derby is a beautiful dappled grey mare who loves to jump! She is available for riders of all ages and levels.

She is a Quarter Horse, which is an American breed that is best known for being very fast sprinters. They are used for quarter mile races.

Dove

Dove is still a youngster, but she is gentle enough for advanced beginners to ride. Her name comes from the white marking on her hindquarters that looks like a dove flying in the air! She also has a half-sister, Friday, who is almost identical to her.

Fancy

Fancy was donated to Orchard Hill by her former owner. Like her best friend, Jasmine, she is a beautiful light grey Arabian mare. Sometimes it is hard to tell them apart! How do we do it? Look at their feet - two of Jasmine's feet are white, and all of Fancy's feet are black.

Fred Astaire (Freddy)

"Freddy" joined Orchard Hill in October at age four, and has impressed us with his quiet but scopey jumping ability. He is now schooling 3' in the ring and 3'6" jumping his paddock fence.

Freddy is still a youngster and needs lots of exercise. He and his best friend Alf love running around their pasture. On days when he is feeling bored, you might see him with both front feet in his water trough!

Jasmine

Jasmine is a 20 year old Arabian mare, granddaughter of Aladdin. She was first trained in jumping, then became a lesson pony, then began her dressage training.

She has competed at Arabian Youth Nationals twice, earning top tens in Training and First level dressage.  She has won many ribbons at rated dressage shows in the region. Jasmine loves to work with both beginner and more accomplished riders.

Larkspur

Larkspur was USEA Area I Novice Horse of the Year at age 6. From age eight, she helped her young rider compete up through Training level eventing (3'9"). Now Mom's horse, she loves cross country and dressage. She is a 15.3hh Holsteiner / Thoroughbred cross with a wonderful disposition and a great ride for both adults and juniors.

Mai Tai (Tyler)

Tyler's career started in racing, then moved on to eventing through Intermediate level. He was the top point winner at Preliminary in New England (Area I) in 2004 and second in 2005. He has earned many blue ribbons for his outstanding dressage performances and jumps stadium and cross country to 3' 9".

Tyler is available for dressage lessons for accomplished students.

Tyler is a Thoroughbred, which is the breed that is used for racing. Horses that have raced, like Ally and Tyler, have their registration numbers tattooed inside their top lip. This way, you can use the number to check any horse's race record and sales history.

Roxanne

"Roxy" is a seven year old Thoroughbred ex-racehorse. She is so calm and gentle, you would never know that she used to race! Her sweet personality and good manners make her the perfect mount for advanced beginners.
